Join us for a conversation featuring Shahzia Sikander, the new Alan Kanzer Artist-in-Residence.

Shahzia is a visual artist who works across various mediums, including drawing, painting, printmaking, animation, installation, performance, and video. Her recent work includes the animation Reckoning, which unfolded across the screens of Times Square every night at midnight in September 2023. Her forthcoming project with the Moynihan Train Hall Public Art Program will feature her animation Singing Suns, displayed across screens in Penn Station's Moynihan Train Hall from November 2023 to January 2024. Additionally, a survey exhibition of Shahzia’s work will be organized in 2024 by the Cleveland Museum of Art and Cincinnati Art Museum.

At ZI, Shahzia will engage with artists and scientists in interdisciplinary pursuits to gain a deeper understanding of the mind and brain. She will collaborate with faculty host Charles Zuker, PhD, to establish meaningful connections with the Institute's ongoing research initiatives and interact with members of the broader community. Together, they will explore the intersections of visual art and neuroscience, delving into areas such as perception, temporality, and sensory experiences to unravel the fascinating convergences between these two fields.
