The Computer in Your Head

For physicist-turned-neuroscientist Larry Abbott, brain cells act a lot like circuits. His research reveals the mental computations that underlie thought.

How is your brain like a computer? To answer this question, Larry Abbott, PhD, at Columbia’s Zuckerman Institute is working with an all-star team of computational biologists. These researchers use mathematics to build models of the mind, in the hopes of better understanding how the living circuits inside your head work. This video explores Dr. Abbott’s collaborative research: from investigating electric fish to building bridges between theoretical and experimental science.
