I’m continuously reminded that seemingly contradictory things can be true at the same time. I’ve returned to that idea often, as I reflect on a year marked by both deep uncertainty and extraordinary achievement.
Like many institutions across the country, we are facing unprecedented challenges — cuts to federal research funding that threaten our work and the very fabric of our mission. Many in our international community have felt uncertainty here in the U.S., as well as fear for loved ones around the world.
And yet, it has also been a year of extraordinary science. Our labs continue to make breakthrough discoveries about the brain and mind. We asked bold questions, tested new ideas, and uncovered insights that bring us closer to understanding memory, perception, decision-making, and mental health. Through it all, our researchers embraced uncertainty and navigated complexity with creativity and resolve.
