Music on the Brain: Perpetual Motion
Physical movement is an essential part of all life, ranging from the involuntary beating of our hearts to walking down the street to the corner store. For this year’s final episode of Music on the Brain at the National Jazz Museum in Harlem, jazz pianist/composer Helen Sung welcomes back dancer & neurorehabilitation researcher Miriam King and special guest scientist Sumaira Zamurrad, Ph.D., for a program examining the neuroscience of movement.

Dr. Sumaira Zamurrad is postdoctoral researcher at Columbia University’s Zuckerman Institute who works with Drosophila (the fruit fly) to study which neurons and neural networks regulate different aspects of walking, and how manipulating these circuits can affect walking behavior.

Please join us for a dynamic exploration of the science behind how we move, together with live musical performance and dance!

Music on the Brain is a collaboration between the National Jazz Museum in Harlem and Columbia University’s Zuckerman Institute.
