Event Description

Music on the Brain brings together jazz music and science in an exploration of how music affects our brains and bodies. Join us for performance from inaugural Jazz Artist-in-Residence and Steinway Artist, pianist Helen Sung. The performance will be accompanied by conversation between Sung and featured scientist Katie Insel, PhD, postdoctoral fellow in the Learning Lab at Columbia University’s Zuckerman Institute and an expert in the neuroscience of reward learning. Take a trip down “musical lane” and explore the science behind how we experience nostalgia and reminiscence through music.

Music on the Brain is a collaboration between the National Jazz Museum in Harlem and Columbia University’s Zuckerman Institute.
