The time commitment can vary depending on the lab and your role, but most undergraduates spend 8–12 hours per week during the semester. Some labs may require a minimum number of hours to ensure consistency in training and project work. Note that there are often weekly maximum limits fo how much full-time undergraduate students are allowed to work, which may also depend on your other employment, your visa status, and other programs you may be involved in. If you are doing research in a lab as a paid position or for credit, please discuss the expected commitment with your advisor and PI. Summer research positions (whether paid or through summer programs) are typically full-time (~35 hours/week).
