Melody and the Mind brings together jazz music and science as we celebrate the way that music affects our brains and bodies. Each month we explore a different topic with a guest scientist from Columbia University, combined with music from New York based and inaugural Zuckerman Institute Jazz Artist-in-Residence pianist Helen Sung.

Join us to listen and move with the music, and maybe learn something new!

June’s guest scientist is Emily Mackevicius, PhD, a postdoctoral research fellow in the Aronov lab at Columbia University's Zuckerman Institute. Dr. Mackevicius is an expert in the neuroscience of birdsong and how we remember songs through practice.

Melody and the Mind is a collaboration between the National Jazz Museum in Harlem and Columbia University’s Zuckerman Institute.
