A Celebration of the Brain

March 11th – March 20th, at Columbia University

Held every year in March, Brain Awareness Week is an international campaign to boost public awareness about brain research and celebrate the wonders of the mind and brain. There’s no better place to get up close and personal with the three-pound marvel in your head than at Columbia University. Working with science and education partners throughout New York, Columbia hosts a variety of Brain Awareness Week events for curious folks of all ages.

We invite our neighbors to join us for free public events featuring head-scratching, mind-boggling activities for every age. Check out featured Brain Awareness Week events below!

Late Night Science: Fighting Against Stroke - March 11. Immerse yourself in the world of scientific research while learning about the blood-brain barrier.

Saturday Science: Mechanisms and Motion - March 15. How does your brain send signals to your body? What systems work together to coordinate movement, balance and reflexes? Join us to explore the fascinating forces behind mechanisms and motion!

Brain Insight Lecture: Advancing mental health care for all - March 18. Three experts combine their perspectives to shed light on groundbreaking innovations in mental health care.

Music on the Brain: Jazz, Birds and the Brain - March 20. By studying songbirds, we can gain insight into why babies babble, what makes jazz improvisation so delightful, and how performers gauge the success of their performance. Join us for a jazz concert and dialogue.
