Linda Oh Live: Jazz Performance & Reception

September 29th, 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm at the Jerome L. Greene Science Center (Kavli Auditorium, 9th floor Lecture Hall)

The Zuckerman Institute is proud to welcome jazz bassist Linda Oh as our new Jazz Artist-in-Residence. Join us for a performance with Linda, moderated by Mike Shadlen, Professor of Neuroscience, Principal Investigator at Columbia’s Zuckerman Institute, and Investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, along with Chris Washburne, Professor of Music and Chair of the Music Department at Columbia.

 

A reception will follow. This event is open to the entire Columbia community.

 

GRAMMY Award–winning bassist and composer Linda Oh has performed with artists such as Pat Metheny, Kenny Barron, Terri Lyne Carrington, and Vijay Iyer.

Originally born in Malaysia and raised in Boorloo (Perth), Western Australia, she has received many honors, including the 2023 Herb Alpert Award and an honorary doctorate from the Manhattan School of Music in 2024.

Linda has released six albums as a bandleader, and her band was recently featured on NPR’s Tiny Desk.

She has written for large and small ensembles, as well as for film. Most recently, she scored Sorority Confidential by filmmaker Kathryn Smith Pyle and is currently working on Invisible Threads, a multidisciplinary project commissioned by the Melbourne Jazz Festival featuring illustrations by Keith Henry Brown.

Linda currently teaches at Berklee College of Music and is also part of the Institute for Jazz and Gender Justice. She was featured on bass in the 2020 Pixar movie Soul and served as the model for the character Miho.
