Columbia University's Mortimer B. Zuckerman Mind Brain Behavior Institute seeks a Lead Magnetic Resonance (MR) Technologist to support the Magnetic Resonance Research Platform. The Lead MR Technologist is a vital member of the Institute's MR Platform. Reporting directly to the MR Research Administrator, the individual provides support for the Zuckerman Institute faculty, staff, students and collaborators with data acquisition on the MR systems.
Assists investigators in every aspect of MR system work: safety training, system use, data collection (structural, functional, spectroscopy, diffusion weighted), peripheral equipment management (display equipment, response equipment, physiologic recording equipment), and data transfer. Responsible for enforcing magnetic field safety for MRI participants and visitors.
Connects new users to MR data management system Flywheel.
Supports all practical aspects of experimentation, including participant access, consent forms, gowning, study preparation, and bed placement. Maintain availability calendar, facilitates building entry for participants, and tracks daily usage. Ensures there are ample supplies and linens to successfully scan participants and enable post-scan sanitizing.
Ensures equipment is operational, safe and functioning according to diagnostic standards. Troubleshoots equipment problems and monitors imaging quality. Coordinates with service representative regarding equipment problems. Performs weekly QA checks, weekly reboots, and clears old scans from the systems.
Serves as an expert operator of Siemens Prisma 3T human bore systems and of a 7T human bore MR system (vendor TBD).
In collaboration with the Investigator and other MR core team members, the MR Lead Technologist attends to every need required for a successful experiment on the MR systems.
Provides support on special projects and performs other job-related duties, as required.
Bachelor's Degree in radiologic technology or similar field. 4–6 years of related experience is required.
Current certification in MRI and active member of American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in good standing.
Prior experience with Siemens MR systems, and experience in a research environment is highly desirable.
Demonstrated passion for customer service focus with the ability to interact and collaborate with multiple constituencies as well as commitment to exceptional quality.
Excellent analytical, organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
Ability to handle multiple projects under tight time deadlines.
Ability to work as a member of a collaborative team while exercising independent judgment essential.
